Closed or Open Entertainment Centers?

When it comes to entertainment centers, I have a specific taste for the armoire. My idea of peace and comfort in an open living space is of clear, crisp and uncluttered space. To me, the large TV and sound systems should be hidden during more intimate evening conversations or during dinner time; then boldly displayed when in use.I don’t find electronics aesthetically pleasing and prefer to hide them with a beautiful piece of furniture.

The idea of a large, natural wooden structure holding my electronics is very pleasing to me.I love all natural materials in my living space.Hardwood floors, oak, mahogany and pine furniture add so much warmth to a home.It keeps part of nature on the inside and feels very soothing to both the eye and to the touch.

There is also something to be said for not having CD and DVD collections on display. They lack the elegance and warmth of books and the plastic jewel cases are easily broken.I’d rather have coffee table books or art works be the topic of conversation when entertaining, not my copy of “Harold and Maude.”I do love talking about movies and documentaries with company although only when I choose to.Having a closed structure encasing my electronics also protects them from dust and other elements which can be damaging. It is less likely for plasma to fall out of a closed armoire or get splattered with liquids or other household mishaps.

Then again, if you have invested in a fabulous television and have an outstanding DVD collection; an open aired entertainment center might be the better choice. There are many with wonderful wooden structures that fit curios, plants and many other delightful pockets of fun.Especially in a full house where the living space is shared by teenagers, adults and many relatives; the accessibility of the open structure lends itself to quicker movement and fun for all.It is definitely the more interactive choice for the whole family.
